Flowers in spring

Crocus, 2011It’s been a crazy spring. We had lots of flowers come up, in early February, then got two days of snow! The crocuses refuse to give up though, and have given us a pretty cool display. We’ve got quite a few all over the garden.

Crocus, 2011The funny thing is, the box that had just a whole boatload of them, has turned up with zilch! Not a single one! I can’t believe it… I put the box out front, and it should really be a heck of a display. Instead – it’s full of dead leaves! hah

Anyway – the weather has been really great lately, and we’ve been taking Max out to the off leash.

Hopefully spring is here to stay!

First blooms

White crocusThe WINTER Olympics are set to kick off on Friday, so it’s nice see the crocuses finally starting to bloom in the garden!

Yep, it’s tough I know, especially knowing that Washington, DC and other points east are covered – deeply! – in snow. So while you’re out shoveling snow, at least you can come and look at the crocuses blooming here in Surrey!

First crocus 2010It’s odd though, usually the yellow crocuses bloom first, but we don’t have any yellow ones up yet. We’ve got about 30 or so purple ones, and just a couple of white ones.

Not sure what happened to the yellow ones, but hopefully they’ll be popping open shortly. The grape hyacinths are pushing open too, with small little buds ready to pop open in to their full purple glory in the next couple of days.

Maybe the yellow ones are waiting until Canada wins their first gold in the Olympics!

Blooming good times…

Icelandic IrisesAh spring! Tomorrow brings the first round of golf of the year. At long last!

Yesterday while loading the car to drive to work, I spotted an Icelandic Iris blooming (I like to call it an Alaskan Iris, but I’m pretty sure that’s wrong.)

When I got home, there were two! But the light was just terrible. I’m going to try and get up early tomorrow and see what the light’s like for a better picture, but check out the little beauties!
CrocusThe crocus are getting more plentiful – usually the yellow ones come out first, but this year, they are just getting ready to open in the box by the front door. These ones are out in the front garden under a rose bush. That’s a “hens and chicks” to the left.

Tomorrow we’re going to win that Lotto 6/49 which figures to be a cool 48 million bucks. Might buy a new car if we did.

Max has been shedding his coat for the last couple of weeks, and for a little guy, he’s got a ton of hair! LOL It’s quite funny to see little tufts of hair sticking out of him! But not so funny is all the vacuuming. hah The more we brush, the more hair that seems to come out! I was thinking that maybe we’ll just have to vacuum him! (JUST KIDDING – well maybe one of those little dust busters! lol)

He is so much fun to play catch with… when he brings it back he sort of plows right into you with it, as if to say, ok, I’ve brought it back, now pitch it out there again…. Quick!

Signs of Spring

Crocus bloomingWell there really does seem to be some spring on the way! There are lots of flowers starting to come through, with shoots for crocus, tulips and daffodils all coming up.

But yesterday!!! — We got our first bloom! Yep  – it’s really spring!

We did some nice long walks around the park today – was really nice. Bright and sunny and while it’s still pretty crisp, you can tell spring is right around the corner.
