Friends visit

I had 2 of my co-workers, (but I will call them friends, for that is what they are)ย  visit today for a while. They spent some time with me sitting in the living room just gabbing about things going on, telling me stories and made me laugh. It was a nice visit, and they brought a big bristle board with stickies on it and notes from so many people at work wishing me a happy valentines and get well wishes, and they brought food as well, so Bonus!

Helen brought some home made red pepper/tomato soup and some buns, and Laila brought some Naan and some Chicken Methi and an eggplant dish. Maurice and I just enjoyed half of the soup, and will have the rest for tomorrow for lunch (thanks Helen!) and we will have the east Indian dishes tonight for dinner (thanks Laila!). The soup was really swell, and we wolfed it down. I know Laila is a great cook so I’m looking forward to having the dinner tonight to taste the flavours.

So far I’ve had visits from several friends at work includingย  Maggie, Gen, Jeanette, Sue, Gloria L, Donna S, Cheryl W, Deb C, Emely and Helen R and Laila. Plus I have had emails from so many people, it’s really swell to have such support around us. Thank you everyone who has come over, who has emailed, who has phoned, who chipped in for the gifts from both sites, and who has cooked for us. You all have been just awesome and I’m in awe of how great everyone has been. Like I say, I may have breast cancer, but I can’t help but think I’m a lucky woman. I’ve a man who loves me, a furbaby who loves me, family who love me, and great friends and co-workers, a job I love…ย  a home I love, .. life is good.

    1. Hi LL,
Thanks for the post, and the kind wishes. I am doing alright and am all the better reading the posts and emails from everyone ๐Ÿ™‚ It’s easier traveling this journey with the support of family and friends. ๐Ÿ™‚ Today is the big day, where I go see the oncologist at the cancer agency, so I will have a new post with updates to put in once I get back. I am still having numbness in axilla and right arm down the back in spots, and nerve pain on right arm and right side that is like a hypersensitive nerve that feels like my arm is badly sunburnt, so anything touching it or if it rubs on my side hurts like hell. I tried putting aloe Vera on it thinking maybe I could numb the skin so it would not feel so painful but it had no effect, it’s not the skin that is damaged I guess, it’s just the nerves that need to settle down. No sign of that happening yet, but I’m hopeful that as time goes on, it will get better. Thx for stopping by the blog ๐Ÿ™‚

  3. Dad O, I know what Mum O means.. about the shower. The surgeon didn’t want me getting my dressing wet either and it was 10 days of sponge baths and washing my hair at the kitchen sink! Blech! Now though, the dressings are off, drain is out, and the shower is OK’d to have. ๐Ÿ™‚
Glad she is getting lots of flowers and cards and friends visiting. It really does make a big difference in one’s psyche I think. Family support, friends support and medical support. Life is good. ๐Ÿ™‚ Wishing you both health and happiness.

  4. Thanks Wanda,
I’m hopeful that the C6-7 is just a flare up, I have a pinched nerve C6-7 but with months of physio 3x a week , tons of traction etc, it got to be a manageable 1/10 on pain scale.. but since surgery it’s worse (not severe unless I move my shoulder in a certain way). I’m hoping that it is just irritated because of positioning and that it will resolve on it’s own. I couldn’t face or afford physio 3x a week. I’m doing my exercises as per physio and while they hurt to do them, i do think it’s going to prevent stiffening up of the shoulder. Thanks for thinking of me ๐Ÿ™‚

  5. Hi Pam,
Good to hear how well u r doing. I am pleased to hear u already have your cancer clinic appt. It will be good to know what the next steps are and the time frame involved. You have such a good attitude! Life is good isn’t it! Hoping and praying for a quick resolution of the numbness and hypersensitivity sxs. What r your C6-7 problems? The other thing one could consider in regard to the sxs is from positioning during the procedure
The operative side arm would have been extended in abduction with palm up. This can be problematic if your ROM at that time was tight at 90 * plus. Just a thought. Take care. I’ll b checking in on you periodically ๐Ÿ™‚

  6. We are so happy for you being far from relatives, yet all the friends you are classed as your family. Mother has the same foods, cards and flowers and many friends. She has had the staples removed
from right leg and is diligent in doing her exercises. She still uses the walker but we will be climbing the steps so we can get the bed out of the living room.
Also she wants to have a real shower!!
Stay up right and God bless.
    Mom and Dad O
