Under the ocean

Moving to Bonaire

Christmas in BonaireSaturday saw us pack up and head to Bonaire. It’s a fairly quick flight, with the airport wait the worst of it. We flew Insel Air this time, since DAE was so slow last time. Everything went quickly. Security was the the biggest hassle and it took less than a minute! haha

The Acoya – the place we stayed at in Curacao – hosted a party that went on into the wee hours of the morning, so we didn’t get a very good sleep. But we jumped in the ocean anyway, right in front of the Divi – our home on Bonaire for the next two weeks – for a short swim.

Permit fishIt was a great snorkel! One thing about Bonaire, it’s so good for the soul. You just know there will be something fun to see. We saw a couple of permit fish, a rather large, cool looking fish. I followed them out to deeper water and they joined another group of 6 permit fish! One guy was quite large, and he imposed himself between me and the rest of the group. You can notice it in the little movie I have uploaded.

Red hind AKA strawberry grouperHere is a picture of a red hind. They typically rest quietly on their pectoral fins on the bottom, but scoot away if you get too close. I like their other common name better – the strawberry grouper! But I think the interesting thing about this picture is the strange shape of the eye.
