Weather wins again!

Eye of MaxOnce again Mother Nature whacks the West Coast. Who knew there was still snow around? Well, trust me, we got more snow – Max in the snowCheck out Max’s reaction to the annoying turn of events! Guess I’ll have to use a colored ball on the golf course tomorrow!

Max and I have been getting out a little more regularly for longer walks lately. I think he knows with his shedding, that spring is here too, because he’s quite a bit friskier. He’s enjoying the outdoors after all that snow, which he did NOT enjoy.

Blooming good times…

Icelandic IrisesAh spring! Tomorrow brings the first round of golf of the year. At long last!

Yesterday while loading the car to drive to work, I spotted an Icelandic Iris blooming (I like to call it an Alaskan Iris, but I’m pretty sure that’s wrong.)

When I got home, there were two! But the light was just terrible. I’m going to try and get up early tomorrow and see what the light’s like for a better picture, but check out the little beauties!
CrocusThe crocus are getting more plentiful – usually the yellow ones come out first, but this year, they are just getting ready to open in the box by the front door. These ones are out in the front garden under a rose bush. That’s a “hens and chicks” to the left.

Tomorrow we’re going to win that Lotto 6/49 which figures to be a cool 48 million bucks. Might buy a new car if we did.

Max has been shedding his coat for the last couple of weeks, and for a little guy, he’s got a ton of hair! LOL It’s quite funny to see little tufts of hair sticking out of him! But not so funny is all the vacuuming. hah The more we brush, the more hair that seems to come out! I was thinking that maybe we’ll just have to vacuum him! (JUST KIDDING – well maybe one of those little dust busters! lol)

He is so much fun to play catch with… when he brings it back he sort of plows right into you with it, as if to say, ok, I’ve brought it back, now pitch it out there again…. Quick!

End of the month…

January31st.jpgHere we are and January is gone already! Pam and I took Max over to Serpentine off leash park and there were lots of goofy, fun dogs there today. Max was able to get in some serious running with a number of dogs.

This guy in the picture was, without a doubt, the clumsiest dog in the universe. He must have run into me 4 or 5 times. He was hysterical! There was also a little terrier of some kind, a little white guy, kept sticking his head in the puddles. Not to drink, but to get his face all muddy. A most unusual trait.

And you know what – I’m picking the Cards in the Super Bowl today. Hoping the old guy can do it. By old guy I mean Kurt Warner, Arizona Cardinals quarterback, who will be 58 on his birthday. But hey, I will take the points!

Foggy days lately

Max in a bandanaWe’ve been in a fog… and the weather has been crazy too! This year is going to be one for the record books, that’s for sure. First the seemingly endless amounts of snow, and now this crazy fog.

I love the fog, and so does Pam, but we don’t normally get it for such a long time and over such a wide area. I’m going to have to get some shots of the bridges, because you can hardly see them.

Max-Foggy ParkThe one of Max in the fog was taken on Saturday, at Serpentine Off leash park. He’s been a bit restless with all the snow not allowing him to get out and give it a good run, so we’ve been to the offleash a couple times over the last couple of days.

The one of him in his new bandana was taken at the office on Saturday. (I was installing the new server on the weekend – easier to do when no one is around tapping their feet waiting for the databases to get back online.)

He’s doing really well, except for his barking at strangers. I’m convinced it’s because he’s scared, or nervous of them, rather than him trying to be mean. He’s generally pretty good, but still has his moments of barking at strangers.

Here’s a small movie to give you an idea of the thickness of the fog in the park.

I've been remiss

Max Christmas PresentsMaurice has done most of the posting and I wanted to come on and gab a bit. 🙂   I wanted to say a big thank you to Peter and Mike for coming with us to Aruba this year and for helping us make memories. We had a fun time and I was so happy that they both decided to join us.

Next year’s winter holiday is already in the works and we know we are going to be going to Oyster Bay Beach Resort in Sint Maarten, in the Caribbean. Could I go to the Caribbean every year for winter? NO PROBLEM! Sign me up. I love it. We have so much fun snorkeling and exploring. 2007 we had a holiday with Maggie and Tim, 2008 we had a holiday with Peter and Mike, and 2009. Maggie and Tim are joining us. We are already in planning mode and will be bookmarking a lot of St. Martin sites so we will be informed before we go. One thing we do know, the snorkeling will be swell as our resort appears to sit right on a coal reef.

Max did really well at Romp Around, where Anna Maria and Brian took great care of our boy. They said he is welcome back anytime, so that’s great. Anna  Maria knows the chow temperament so that helped. 🙂 When we first went to pick Max up he was barking and when I talked to him his tail went a mile a minute and he was good with me, but Maurice got a barking reception. Max was showing him he felt M was responsible for leaving him, however that was short lived and they were soon best buds again. 🙂 He settled down in the back seat and we got home Sunday afternoon from our trip.

I have to be honest and say it was not GREAT to be back as you’ve seen we arrived to snow and cold cold weather. Here in LA LA land we don’t expect that. As M said, we didn’t sign up for this! I am back on holidays again but will putter around the house and stay warm. The roads seem to be clearer tonight as a plow came through and cleared the roads here in our cul de sac.. this morning there were cars having a hell of a time trying to get out, and guys were out trying to shovel the roadways, not just their driveways, to help
White Christmas treespeople get out. The snow on the roads was about 1.5 feet in  been ruts and only trucks and 4×4’s seems to be able to get out, a van was spinning and stuck in front of our house for a bit but he got going before we had to help  lol  Anyways the first thing I started doing was looking for some last minute cheap airfares OUT OF HERE so we could escape this winter freeze…  us who had been in 29C +  now enduring this -6  lol  quite a shock to our nicely tanned hides.

No luck finding anything that we could afford so we are stuck here in the freeze.

Another great snow-in

Max In the SnowSeems for the last few years running we’ve talked about the worst snow storm ever.

Like most of North America, we’re digging out from another big dump of snow this year. I hope you’re all safe and warm, and your cars are running without any additional damage!

Digging OutMax likes the snow, that’s for sure. He has no problems plowing into any snowbank. The snow is piled way high.

Took about an hour to dig the driveway out this morning -third time i’ve dug the sidewalk in 36 hrs – I didn’t sign up for this – supposed to be the WET coast! And not a single car came by.

Two trucks came by, but that’s it. Basically the city is crawling. The police were recommending that only those with chains should be driving. It is very deep on the corners, easy to skid out.
Digging OutThe snow has buried about 30% of our display! lol Just keeping the blowups going is a challenge some nights. The snow easily beats them down.

But honestly, really enjoying the snow. Would like to find a place to skate outside!

Last night, Pam and Max and I went for a nice walk, and we cruised up the middle of the street, since there were zippo cars. He’s a very obedient guy, came running to our side every time we called him when a car dared the streets. He’s quite hysterical in the snow, when he gets pumped up.

We met another couple of dogs out in the snow, and they figured it was the off leash park haha.

He was always running back to us with face full of snow just grinning.
