This picture of Elmo, a 12 year old Blue Heeler, is our neighbour’s dog. He’s looking awfully dapper in his blue bandana!
Elmo and Buck were best buddies. He doesn’t see too well, and Buck was pretty much deaf.
Elmo and Max are trying to get along – it’s a work in progress. Last night they did really well. Nobody jumped the other!

I think it’s so hard for other pets to understand the loss of a pet/friend. When we lost Polly I was also so upset for our other cat Rocky, I did talk to him and tell him but how do any of us really know what an animal understands. I like to believe they understand and know every word we say, but we will never know will we.
So we lost our Polly in April and we did notice a slight difference in Rocky but then only a few weeks ago now, his very best friend, Harvey who lived next door was tragically run over and killed and as I shared him (as his owner always said LOL) – he was same age as Rocky, they came as kittens within weeks of each other and they grew up together, and Harvey spent all his time in my garden, and when they went away I always looked after him and fed him so I loved him almost as much as my own cats, so when he died I was also very upset, but I was more upset for Rocky as he was now all alone 🙁 He had had his ‘sister’ taken in April and then suddenly lost Harvey and that he showed so many more obvious signs of grief and was very unsettled. It just broke my heart for him 🙁
So going back to Elmo, it will be quite some time perhaps before he totally accepts Max, but with patience and love I’m sure they’ll be fine before long.
