Pam and Max

Quick update

Scottsdale Vet We took Max down to the vet on Friday afternoon. Dr Llewellyn had told us to watch him closely once we stopped the steroids, to see if Max had any difficulty. He has not improved since we stopped the steroids, I’d have to say that.

He’s still a very playful guy. He’s found a road hockey ball that he gets a great kick out of throwing around. Maybe we should train him to throw it when the Canucks score! First few games he wouldn’t have got much exercise tho…

But, he doesn’t have full control of his left front paw, even though he can get around. We’ll give him another go at the steroids. Maybe we can advance him a bit more. We’ll have to keep him from running, so we’ll curtail our visits to the big parks.

At any rate, Max is doing well. Don’t worry about him. He’s mobile. He’s not very steady on his feet sometimes, but you should see me trying to walk these days! haha No really, he’s not as frisky as he was before all this happened, but he was a “senior dog” when we got him. We knew life would happen. 🙂 He’s warm and well fed and loved! And he seems ok with that.

  1. yes the vet said he could be, but we are doing 5mgm pred twice a day now (being sure to give him the sulcrate an hour before hand so that he doesn’t get stomach ulcer… he’s doing ok but not 100%

    …Pam…

  2. Thanks for the update on Max….I guess time will tell how he will adjust. We had our dog Kenya on steroids for months and her stomach didn’t deal with it. I can attest to the negatives of steroids as I am on a steroid (prednisone)but staring to wean off while doubling the immunosuppressive.. I think these drugs all have a price and it’s a trade off for quality of life as long as you have it… I was told to take pred with food but that’s not always easy..I’m juggling abnout ten medications a day and will be glad to be off the prednisone. It did however turn the lupus around but you can’t be on it forever because of the long term side effects. I don’t know but with a senior dog maybe he can be on it forever in low dose.

  3. Well it seems like Max is having a new path of comfortable and happy which is great to hear. He may not be perfect anymore but who among us is. You guys are amazing with your patience. He knows he has great parents.
