It's a new day

Red blooms in VancouverWell, turns out Vancouver will vote Liberal. Trudeaumania rules. At least for now. Good luck Pierre, um, Justin!

Not surprisingly, Bailey and I noticed a lot of red around, during our early morning walk.

Here’s a video taken near the river early this morning. The sun is up, but it was quite overcast at 6:45 am.

Parking for beginnersSo I ask you… can this guy on the right park or what? Might be a trifle over the line? heh

Running around

Bailey in the parkBailey has made a lot of new friends in the neighbourhood. There are tons of dogs, and most are pretty friendly.

Lots of people are using this park as an off leash area, although I’m not sure it is an off leash area. But, no one seems to complain, and all the dogs are well behaved.

Here is a video of Bailey chasing one of her new friends. I forgot I had my phone with me, but they had been chasing each other for quite some time.

Pretty funny stuff… she’s been having fun that’s for sure!

Our new neighbourhood

The PhoenixWednesday the final pod arrives and once it is unpacked, we will be officially moved in! The first picture is of our new building, named the Phoenix, as viewed from the park by the Fraser river where we often take Bailey for her daily stroll.

FREE Pooch ParkingThe River District is part of a planned community with many amenities a couple of years away. However, there is a distinct feel to the neighbourhood. We’ve been welcomed to this area by so many people, it’s hard to believe. Even Bailey feels welcome – check out the free parking and free water for the dogs!

A view of the riverIt’s a working river, for sure, with lots of tugs towing various vessels and big log booms up and down the channel. Here a big heron gets a look at the area from atop a big piling.

Bailey watches the riverBailey never gets tired of checking out the river. If I let her get close enough, she jumps right in. There are other parks, but we haven’t ventured far yet.

Hemlock Park

Sunnyside Acres Urban ForestBailey and I have been out for a couple of long walks through some parks recently. The first we went to was Sunnyside Acres Urban Forest in south Surrey. It’s one of my favorite parks, but man oh man was it in bad shape! The recent snow has created huge puddles that make a lot of the trails virtually impossible to walk. We had to back track several times in order to find a passage.
Sunnyside Acres
The trees have been damaged too – there are many trees snapped off in the middle, others have been torn up right at the roots, and branch debris litters a lot of the pathways. It’s kinda sad really. Such a lovely park. Hopefully the crews will get in there and make things better!

Wild bearOne thing really interesting that we saw was this bear! Yep, a bear in Sunnyside! Kinda scary – although I have to admit, having Bailey there to protect me made it easier to deal with.

Hemlock ParkOn Tuesday we headed to a new park called Hemlock Park in north Surrey. It’s a medium sized park,  with lots of paths through some very large Western Red cedars, towering Douglas Firs and of course lots of hemlock. The paths were very dry and we were able to navigate the whole park easily.

Hemlock ParkNice park if you live in the neighbourhood, but a bit of a drive for us. Other parks in the area are larger, like Green Timbers and Tynehead. Still, was neat to see some of the large stumps leftover from the logging many years ago. This one Bailey is sitting in front of had to be thirty-five feet around, maybe even more!

Crow in the snow

Spring snowstormFor all you people in the east who have had a bad winter, here are a couple pictures of the sudden spring snow storm we are enduring here. The snow started falling on Saturday, and hasn’t really stopped since.

Bailey in the snowWe’ve had such a mild winter, this snow has really caught us off guard. Our crocuses have bloomed already, and are now under several inches of snow. I imagine they are toast now!

Bailey loves racing around in the snow. But this picture makes her look so darn sad! You’d think she’d get tired of the ice building up in her paws but she’s quite content to race around like a greyhound.

Into the fog

In Crescent ParkIt’s been a trying time for us lately. Health issues for both of us are taking up so much of our time. It’s been a drag. And we’re getting to know too many doctors! lol Bailey has been good, but I kind of feel for her because we haven’t been able to get her the exercise she really deserves.

In Crescent ParkSo, today Bailey and I headed out to Crescent Park for a short walk. It’s really foggy in Vancouver, and apparently will be for the next few days. We took a walk up to the duck pond and Bailey was fascinated by them. They would tease her by coming quite close to the shore and then sort of fade back into the middle. You can see the fog in the background of the bigger picture, too.

It was nice to get out and walk around in the park. It was basically deserted. We only met one other person, and she had a nice dog. She and Bailey had a good meeting, lots of tail wagging and play stances. A great sign that she’s not forgotten how to socialize.

Quick note

Karen and BaileyHere’s a picture of Karen and Bailey taken when Karen and Dick were out here in Surrey in early September this year. I had forgotten these pictures were on the camera. I was just looking through the disk and here is a kind of goofy picture.

Bailey photo bombs! We were going for a walk in Tynehead Park and Pam and Karen were in the backseat of the car. Bailey figures the backseat belongs to her and seemed unwilling to share it with Karen.
