Something about Max!

I just wanted to say a few words in praise of Max. He looks to be about Buck’s size, but now that I’ve lived with him for a while, I see he is much smaller. He is very quick, and light on his feet. You can’t really hear him, but you know he’s there.

He likes to greet me when I get home with a physical greeting. He does things like pushing his head into the back of my knees as I walk! When he comes at me from the front, he runs into my legs… as I type it, it sounds silly, or he’s blind or something! But it’s very endearing, it’s clear he’s trying to get close.

He’s got this great trick of throwing this rubber play bone or a ball back to you. He goes and gets it, tosses it on the way back, then tosses it over to you. Quite funny.

He likes a hug good night… he comes on the bed for a hug, then goes an lays on his blanket – Pam has tried and tried to get him to stay, but nope, a hug and last couple of days a scratch or two, but he still gets off. When he curls up, he can look very small.

We go for a walk every morning at 7, and he’s waiting at the bottom of the stairs for me. When i sit on the steps to put on my shoes, he sits beside me, putting his bum on the top step, and his front legs on the step lower. It’s really cute – I’ll have to get Pam to take a pic of it.

He’s a small guy, but he has tons of spirit. I’m really glad we have him in our lives.

Elmo, Buck's Buddy

ElmoThis picture of Elmo, a 12 year old Blue Heeler, is our neighbour’s dog. He’s looking awfully dapper in his blue bandana!

Elmo and Buck were best buddies.  He doesn’t see too well, and Buck was pretty much deaf.

Elmo and Max are trying to get along – it’s a work in progress. Last night they did really well. Nobody jumped the other!

Buck's Memorial

Silly BuckHey everyone,

It was two weeks ago today that our dear little Buck went to play with the angels. We have had an obit published in this week’s Georgia Straight.

I still find myself breaking down at most inopportune times, but the good memories are allowing me to contain my grief a little better. I also find myself talking to Max like he was Buck, but he doesn’t seem to mind!

Max is a great dog, and I’m sure glad he’s come into our lives! He’s just a sweetheart – and very easy to love. He wants to do the right thing all the time. His eye contact is superb, looking for the next command.

Here is a link to the memorial on the Straight’s site: http://www.straight.com/classifieds/Announcements/In+Memoriam

Thanks again to you all for your support.

Saturday Morning

Max Sleeping - first day homeMax had his first night in his new home. I put his bed at the foot of our bed. I called him up on our bed, and he came, but would only sit. Tried to get him to lay down, but he didn’t want to.

He left after a couple minutes. He lay in the hall for a bit then went downstairs.

He likes to lay with his back to the stairs, that’s for sure. I think he slept the night in the family room, where there are two beds for him to choose from.

Anyway – here is a video from YouTube of Carolyn and Rookie – if you can watch this and NOT smile, chuckle or say awwwww – then you’re one tough bastard.

The part where Rookie puts his paw on her hip is so sweet…. Someone sent me this video a long time ago, with the Subject Line: Tell People this is BUCK! lol Buck was that goofy, that’s for sure! He loved to run through your legs like Rookie does at the beginning of the video.

The BIG Snowfall

The backyard November 2006 Day 1Out the Kitchen windowThis is the view out our kitchen window, toward the neighbour’s house. As you can see, we’re not quite as green as usual!

And it’s still falling!

Well here we are in a snow storm again! I blame the tree-huggers here in Vancouver who are adamantly opposed to Global Warming – so we wind up with this stuff falling! It is still coming down and the snow has gotten deeper!

Buck, November 2006

Buck may not be as spry as he once was, but he still loves the snow.

Never could figure that one out, since he hates to get his paws wet. But he sure loves to be out in the snow!

Shed-day-2-Nov-2006Day 2 of the Big snowstorm of November 2006. The snow is still coming down, and it has more than doubled the amount we got! Take a look at those photos! Wow – who knew you’d get snow like this in Vancouver!?
