Blooming good times…

Icelandic IrisesAh spring! Tomorrow brings the first round of golf of the year. At long last!

Yesterday while loading the car to drive to work, I spotted an Icelandic Iris blooming (I like to call it an Alaskan Iris, but I’m pretty sure that’s wrong.)

When I got home, there were two! But the light was just terrible. I’m going to try and get up early tomorrow and see what the light’s like for a better picture, but check out the little beauties!
CrocusThe crocus are getting more plentiful – usually the yellow ones come out first, but this year, they are just getting ready to open in the box by the front door. These ones are out in the front garden under a rose bush. That’s a “hens and chicks” to the left.

Tomorrow we’re going to win that Lotto 6/49 which figures to be a cool 48 million bucks. Might buy a new car if we did.

Max has been shedding his coat for the last couple of weeks, and for a little guy, he’s got a ton of hair! LOL It’s quite funny to see little tufts of hair sticking out of him! But not so funny is all the vacuuming. hah The more we brush, the more hair that seems to come out! I was thinking that maybe we’ll just have to vacuum him! (JUST KIDDING – well maybe one of those little dust busters! lol)

He is so much fun to play catch with… when he brings it back he sort of plows right into you with it, as if to say, ok, I’ve brought it back, now pitch it out there again…. Quick!

Signs of Spring

Crocus bloomingWell there really does seem to be some spring on the way! There are lots of flowers starting to come through, with shoots for crocus, tulips and daffodils all coming up.

But yesterday!!! — We got our first bloom! Yep  – it’s really spring!

We did some nice long walks around the park today – was really nice. Bright and sunny and while it’s still pretty crisp, you can tell spring is right around the corner.

Happy Birthday Maurice!

Maurice SkatingWell it is that time of the year again and Maurice will be celebrating his birthday today. This year we are going to be going to the Vault restaurant in Cloverdale and we are meeting two dear friends Maggie and Tim. We will come back here and gab about an upcoming holiday we will all be going on, and watch some hockey. Sounds like a good day to me. 🙂

This is a picture of my hockey player when he was 9 years old, isn’t he sweet?

Happy Birthday Sweetie!

Christmas 2008

Early light showMerry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

The following pic is from mid November or so – before we left for Aruba.

Early Light ShowHere is the first picture of the house for 2008. It’s very early yet. Only one small blow up – and no reindeer.

Pam and I made a Santa’s sleigh this year – it’s not out yet either. We’ll save a bunch til after mid-December. Don’t want to peak too soon! LOL We’ll add almost daily for a while.

November 13th Additions

Here is a new pic of the house with a few blowups stuck up, once we got back from Aruba.

Reindeer - looking to the streetWell somehow I got talked into putting up the reindeer. It was the little girl next door – it was all her doing! I swear. I went to tell her that i had some deer to put out, and I wanted to add after I got back from holidays, but she was so excited, I couldn’t tell her then now could i? It would cruel to the poor kid.

ReindeerThe picture on the left is looking at the house from across the street. Pam ‘suggested’ I add the blue lights around the chimney – it’s a “net light” designed to go around bushes – but looks cool there too.

Tree with StarHere is another picture – this one showing the star on top of the tree – this is the other item I added today. The star had a variety of patterns it runs through, flashing, fading, chasing. It was given to us by the neighbours when they moved away.

First impressions

I went to see Max yesterday at the SPCA in Abbotsford. We spotted him on the internet and when I called to see if he was still there, he was! We thought we should go look, as he looked lost and alone, and frightened to be there..  Alicia was especially helpful once we got there, in telling us about Max. We thought he looked lovely. Someone had taken the time to groom him nicely and spruce him up, and he walked so nicely on the lead with us, and trotted like a trooper 🙂 My husband Maurice and I both felt like this little guy really should be part of our pack… and so the paperwork got done. We are waiting for Max’s surgery to be done tomorrow (thursday) and then we get to bring him home Friday or Saturday… and then we will have our furbaby home with us, and life will be good. I know he’s going to have a different personality from our first boy Buck… and that as a part chow, he’s going to be a stubborn guy about a few things 🙂  but we are up for it and our urge to give this guy  a loving home far outweighs any thoughts that it might be more than we are used to.. 🙂

This Blog is going to be our diary of Max. Friends and family and dog lovers can help celebrate his life here with us. Post if you want, Max will answer you 🙂

Joy in Surrey

Joy in Surrey

Good shot! This summer our good friend Joy flew out from her home in Ohio to stay a couple weeks with us. We had a great time, even though the weather pretty much sucked.

The 18th hole, Linden WashingtonIt was just like old times. We originally met over the internet while playing bridge. We met in person at one of the conventions in 1998. Over the years we’ve traveled to each other’s homes and stayed in touch, even though we’re thousands of miles apart.

Mighta missed that oneWe spent a couple of days down in our time share in Linden, Washington. It’s a pretty little town just across the border from us. We can get there in well under an hour, if the border crossings cooperate.

Cute wind ornamentIt has a really challenging links-style golf course there. You need to know your game well, as there is a lot of water, and you need to know how far you will hit with your club, or you’re in it! It was one tough course.

There are some lovely homes around the course, naturally, but the little golf cart wind sock is hysterical.

Another place had an old golf bag as a planter. Cute too.

Surrey – Just across the River.

Central City TowerWe live in Surrey now, just across the river from Vancouver. It’s about a 45 minute drive to our old place. This picture is the tower that is part of one of the largest shopping centers in Surrey.

It’s called Central City and it is being positioned as the “downtown” of Surrey. The Sky train has a stop there, and transit has a big loop there. Diane Watts, our current mayor is trying to get a city hall built in this area too. Currently, City hall is on a hilltop in south Surrey, in a mostly rural setting. This would be a better, more dynamic area for City Hall.

There are several other residential towers being built in the neighbourhood and that will change the nature of the area, too. It’s going to get alot busier over those bridges! There are 3 huge apartment towers, one completed already. The Skytrain really spurs development all along it’s stops.

We’re about a 10-15 drive from this area of town. We’re further south. We’re hoping the Skytrain might come down the King George Highway right to White Rock. That would be terrific.
